Ignatzia Otto was born in Svelvik, Norway, the daughter of the sailmaker Magnus Løvling Osberg and Ingeborg Hauge. On March 1, 1890 she married the Norwegian theater director Harald Otto in Chicago, whom she had met in 1887. The couple were the parents of the theater director Reidar Otto. In the summer of 1892 she played the title role in Rolf Olsen's play Anna Kolbjørnsdatter in outdoor performances at Schjong in Hønefoss in a series of performances staged by her husband.
