Ian Sklar

Ian Sklar is a New York City based singer/songwriter. He moved from Fl. to New York City in the late 1990's. to compose and perform original music. He currently lives in an apartment on the street that was once known as "Tin Pan Alley". It is there where he writes and records most of his original music. He has played venues in New York's "Village". These included CBGB's, The Sidewalk Cafe' and Kenny's Castaways as well as others.

He comes from a strong pedigree of musicians. His most notable musical relative is Walter Hautzig, the Romantic Pianist. He also has a distant relative who played "First Violin" with the Vienna Philharmonik.

His songs are routinely played on the Fevered Brain of Radio Mike (www.thefeveredbrainofradiomike.com) and Brooklyn Heights Radio (www.brooklynheightsradio.com)

He has also played concerts at clubs in South Florida. He was songwriter, rhythm guitarist and lead singer for the bands Mr. Tate and A.K.A. The main lineup for "Mr. Tate" was Ian Sklar (rhythm guitar/vox), Joe Santoro (Bass Guitar then Lead Guitar/vox), Marc Friedlander (drums/vox) and Carrie Welker (Lead Guitar). "Mr. Tate" shared the same rehearsal space as "Vesper Sparrow" which is still performing and recording with a slightly different linup. The original bass player for that group was Mary Karlzen who had a video in rotation on VH-1 in the 1990's and is also still writing and performing. She confided to Ian that his writing had an influence on hers and on Vesper Sparrow.

While in New York he formed the Ian Sklar Ensemble which comprised of rhythm guitar/vox (Ian Sklar), Upright Bass/vox (Dan Martin), Percussion (Barbara Feldman). He also Performed with Greg Yakaitis on the Dumbek drum. Currently Ian performs as an acoustic artist.


His current CD is self titled and was recorded at what was formerly "The Hit Factory" in NYC
