Hymie the Robot

Hymie the Robot is a fictional robot from the 1960's spy-spoof television series Get Smart, portrayed by Richard Gautier.

Hymie was built by the villainous Dr. Ratton to serve KAOS, but in his first mission, Maxwell Smart managed to turn him to the side of CONTROL, and from then on he loyally served that organization.

Hymie had numerous superhuman abilities: he was amazingly strong; he could swallow poisons and register their name, type and the quantity; he ran extremely quickly; and he could jump to incredible heights. Unfortunately, his cutting-edge design did not include superhuman mental processing, most-significantly characterized by an overly-literal interpretation of commands. For example, when told to "Hop down to the lab", he literally hopped down there on one leg; when told to answer the door, Hymie approached it and said "Hello door—What was the question I had to answer again?". He took simple jokes as huge personal insults, and typically tried to run away, or de-circuit himself. Hymie also frequently suffered mood swings, usually resulting in attempts at self-harm.

When confronted as a robot, the Chief or Agent 99 would complain that Hymie was a cybernaut, thereby showing how Hymie was a danger. In response, Max would reply "What does his religion have to do with it?"

Despite these design flaws, Hymie became a valuable asset for CONTROL.

He was most recently portrayed in the 2008 Get Smart movie by Patrick Warburton.
