Hoos In Treble, also known as HIT, is a nationally acclaimed a cappella group from the University of Virginia, most lovingly known for their pink pumps and little black dresses. The musical sisterhood was formed in the fall of 1999 when founding lady Jennie Donovan created the group based on the principles of excellent musicianship, enthusiastic and diverse talent, and a commitment to distinguished and tasteful performances. Since the founding fall, the group has established it’s Four Pillars: “Professionalism, Organization, Creativity, and Sustainability". The HITtas, as they are called, perform songs from a variety of genres which, in the past, have ranged from sweet ballads to up-beat, sassy music. Their variety of musical performances have earned them national acclaim and nominations for awards: Contemporary A Cappella Society nominations and being featured on the Best of College A Cappella (BOCA) CDs. Their most recent album, Chinese and Champaign, received stellar reactions from the entire a cappella community including a nomination for Best Overall Female Collegiate Album, and CARA nominations for songs such as “Settle Down” for best female collegiate soloist. HIT History Founded in 1999, Hoos In Treble is UVA’s youngest all-female a cappella group. Music was thriving at Virginia, but founder Jennie Donovan sought to build a more inclusive a cappella community for talented women at the university. Continuing the tradition that was started in 1999, the current HITtas strive to uphold a community of sisterhood and musicality by presenting first-rate musical arrangements across the country. The beautiful HIT logo is a based on the group name with a treble clef serving as the foundation of the logo and a cursive line draw throughout to create the letter H. HIT Currently The a cappella community at the University of Virginia thrives today more than ever before. Groups like Hoos In Treble, The Sil'hooettes, and The Virginia Belles form the three all-female a cappella groups that are part of the University of Virginia A Cappella Presidents Council (which also includes all-male groups The Academical Village People, Hullabahoos, and The Virginia Gentlemen & co-ed groups CHooSE, New Dominions, and ReMix). Today, Hoos In Treble partakes in traditional, annual events like Singing Valentine’s, Rotunda Sing, Dorm Sings, and Lighting of the Lawn.
