Homofascism

In academic texts, homofascism is a term used to describe connections between homosexuality and fascism, a subject covered by the Frankfurt School and subsequent writers.

Political usage

Homofascism is also used, in a separate sense, to describe the silencing and persecution of those opposed the GLBT rights movement. A similar term, "sodomofascist" also exists, though a Google search seems to indicate it as having less usage (94 results) than "homofascism" (1,750 results) or "homofascist" (16,100 results).

Examples

Events which some critics have described as "homofascist" include:

* The arrest of seven Christians in Elmira, New York for praying in a public park where a homosexual festival was beginning.

* Catholic Charities of Boston's discontinuation of adoption services after the passing of a Massachusetts anti-discrimination law which would require the organization to place adopted children with homosexual couples.

* The firing of Washington Metropolitan Area Transport Agency employee Robert J. Smith by Maryland governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. after he referred to homosexual behavior as "deviant" on a talk show unrelated to his work.
