History in Ace Combat

The video games in Ace Combat series all take place within the same fictional universe. Across all the games in the series, a substantial amount of fictional history has been created.

Belka

Early history (pre 1989)
Belka appeared to be a prosperous, medium-sized nation, which, judging from the prologue of Ace Combat 5, has invaded the independent nations to its south several times through out the centuries. The Belkans were supposedly always pushed back to their original soil, but Belka itself had never been taken.

Federal Law Review and the Fascist Revolution (1989-1995)
During a period of peace, Belka initiated a Federal Law Review, which unexpectedly crashed the Belkan economy. The Federal Law Review gave more autonomy to member nations of the Belkan Federation. Though thought to be useful as it gave member nations a voice, panic came when one nation decided to secede. Through a vote from all member nations, the nation seceded. One by one, other nations followed in its footsteps, including the naturally rich Ustio. Without its natural resources, the Belkan economy eventually collapsed. During the panic, the Belkan Home Worker's party, a fascist party, seized power and took control of the nation. The transfer of power transformed Belka from a democratic federation to a fascist federation, combining the judicial, executive, and legistrative branches under one controlling banner.

For six years, Belka invested heavily in its military, creating weapons that were unrivaled. It is suspected during this time of preparation of warfare, Belka researched and created at least ten nuclear warheads, likely becoming the fourth out of four countries to be nuclear-capable (the other three being Osea, Erusea and
Yuktobania). As well as upgrading its conventional armed forces and nuclear capability, Belka invested in creating large unconventional superweapons such as the XB-0 Hresvelgr, a massive aircraft presumably capable of holding paratroops, infantry, aircraft, bombs (including nuclear warheads); and the Excalibur, a long range laser tower for striking pinpoint targets. These new super weapons, in addition to regular nuclear and a well equipped ground, sea and air force would have made Belka the greatest military superpower in the world. Expecting an attack, other countries (namely Osea) developed weapons in order to counter and someday fight the less than subtle preparations of Belka, Osea's government in retaliation developed the Satellite Orbital Linear Gun (SOLG), which would attack anywhere on the planet from Space with Multiple Independently targetable Re-entry Vehicles (MIRVs). It can be presumed that at this point, Yuktobania began its development of massive submarine military weapons as a means of defense and extending its power to other continents without utilizing the nuclear option.

The Belkan War (1995)

When war was declared in 1995, Belka managed to capture and occupy vast areas of its neighbors' land. The hardest hit was the small country of Ustio, which was occupied almost completely with the exception of some mountainous area. Other countries, such as Osea and Sapin, also lost territory to Belka. As the war progressed, Belka slowly lost its new territories, and opposing forces encroached on the Belkan homeland. The huge resources of Osea and Yuktobania were of paramount importance to the counteroffensive. Also critical was the 6th Air Division of Ustio, mercanary pilots working for the Ustio government. They defeated some of the most skilled pilots that Belka offered. This collection of ace Belkan pilots was known as the "Knights of the Round Table."

Soon, Belka had been pushed back to just south of its central mountain range, in the region of Stier, home to several Belkan cities. In an effort to stop the Allies, Belka used seven of its nuclear bombs to create an impassable nuclear barrier, destroying their own cities and killing over 12,000 Belkans in the process. This act officially ended the Belkan War in the North; in Sudentor, the remnants of the besieged South Belkan army, taking adavantage of the confusion following the blasts and subsequent lack of communications (due to the EMP discharge from the nuclear bombs), attempted to break the Allies' line of three divisions. It was a last, desperate charge. As it could be said for the war itself, the Belkans' luck quickly spoiled. On June 20, two weeks after the nuclear blasts, the guns fell silent.

A few Belkan units refused to surrender, however. Many operations still continued against the remnant forces, until it turned out that they were not fighting for Belka. They had joined with units from all over the world to form "A World With No Boundaries", a terrorist group that intended to unify the world into a single nation. However, Ustian mercenary pilots were able to neutralize the group.

A final group of Belkans went deep underground to form a group that would go unnoticed for 15 years. They were called the Grey Men.

Circum-Pacific War (2010)
In the years after the war, Belka was crippled both physically and economically. Its expensive armed forces were wiped out and once powerful super weapons now destroyed. Belka also couldn't generate the money needed to recreate any of these, as its occupied land was once again territory of its rightful countries. Even much of Belka's own southern lands (now the province of North Osea) had been occupied. Belka now only had control over a cold, mountainous region without enough resources to directly participate in another war. Its population had also taken a significant blow due to the destruction of seven cities, and the loss of even more to the south. For much of the time, Belka appeared to have no working government (similar to Somalia between 1991-2000), but instead was managed by corporations that operated both in Belka, and the new state of North Osea. One of these companies was the weapons manufacturer North Osea Gründer Industries, the head of which was a secret member of the Belkan Grey Men, who had seized control of the country twenty years ago.

Through Belka's corporate power, the Grey Men and other loyalists began to send weapons to Osea and Yuktobania, they also saw to it that these two superpowers were secretly sent Belkan fighter squadrons to strengthen each nations' air forces (Osea's Grabacr and Yuktobania's Ofnir aggressor squadrons). Belka also produced the V2 nuclear weapon, a MIRV missile fired from the SOLG which could have destroyed at least seven target areas in one shot. Finally, Belka (with agents inside both superpowers' governments) provoked militaristic generals in Yuktobania to stage a silent coup, and declare war on Osea. Soon after the Belkan fighter squadron in Osea (Grabacr, known to the Oseans as the 8492nd TFS) abducted President Vincent Harling on the way to a peace conference in North Point, control was usurped by Vice President Applerouth and military officers who resigned several years ago to protest Harling's defense budget cuts. All Belka had to do was to use its two secret aggressor squadrons to periodically provoke the other nation and be sure no one nation got the upper hand.

As both countries' strength faded, Grey Men loyalists took control of the Arkbird, a joint Osean-Yuktobanian orbital spacecraft, and armed it with two lasers, UCAVs, and several air to air missile turrets. Their plan was to escalate the war into a final stage by triggering a nuclear strike on the Yuktobanian city of Ochabursk. However, their plan was foiled by a squadron of fighters called the "Razgriz" (Formerly the Osean Wardog Squadron, 108th TFS, 5th Fighter Wing). These fighters destroyed the Arkbird along with the nuclear weapon onboard, and eventually exposed Belka's plot, helping reinstate President Harling of Osea, with help from Osean and Yuktobanian defectors. This squadron of fighters, along with loyalists of Osean President Harling and Yuktobanian Prime Minister Nikanor, attacked the Belkan command post in Sudentor, which was secretly orchestrating the war and preparing the SOLG for a nuclear attack on both nations. They were also constructing a large tunnel to reunite Belka with the land it lost in the Belkan War. With the command center destroyed, the Grey Men ordered one final desperate attack: to drop the SOLG itself on Oured, the Osean capital. The Razgriz killed Ofnir and Grabacr, who were covering the satellite drop, and destroyed the SOLG in mid-air.

Erusea
:See also Nations and Organizations of Ace Combat - Erusea.

Pre-War

The game hints that the country is militant in nature, and industrialized, as throughout the course of the war in the Usea Continent, Erusea was successful in developing two super weapons: Stonehenge, and Megalith. Stonehenge, developed in 1994, was designed to destroy Near-Earth Objects, but had potential as an anti-air weapon.

Continental War

In 2004, Erusea dominated the Usea continent using the superweapon Stonehenge to dominate the airspace over the continent. This drove out the Independent State Allied Forces (ISAF) to North Point. In turn, Erusea conquered most of the Usea mainland. However, within a short period of time, ISAF had countered most of Erusea's attempts to completely conquer ISAF. Erusea officially surrendered in 2005, ending the Continental War.

Post-War

In 2006, a group of nationalistic Erusian officers took over munitions factory with large amounts of military hardware (including 4 X-02s) and rebelled against the ISAF occupation forces. The rebellion was eventually crushed by AWACS Sky Eye and Mobius 1.

Independent States Allied Forces
:See also Nations and Organizations of Ace Combat - Independent State Allied Forces.
As an asteroid named Ulysses 1994 XF-04 approached Earth, several Usean nations built Stonehenge, a network of eight railguns designed to shoot down the asteroid when it reaches Earth's atmosphere, near the small and neutral nation of San Salvacion.

On Saturday July 8th 1999, when the asteroid arrived, it broke into millions of fragments, many of which survived re-entry into the atmosphere and hit the Usean continent. Erusea, seriously damaged by the impacts and almost bankrupt from financing the construction of Stonehenge, invaded San Salvacion. The Erusian military seized Stonehenge and realized its potential as an anti-aircraft weapon. With a range that covered most of the continent, Erusea was able to take over all of Usea, with the exception of the city of Saint Ark and islands off of the east coast.

The ISAF was a multinational military force consisting of the nations opposing Erusea. Without air support, ISAF was crushed by Erusian forces and forced to evacuate to the island-nation of North Point on the eastern Usean coast.

The Continental War

Erusea makes it a high priority to take North Point, and frequently attacks it with bombers from the nearby Rigley Air Base, formerly an ISAF Facility. The 118th TFS, Mobius Squadron, destroys the base's Tu-95 bombers while they're on the ground, temporarily eliminating the threat. ISAF takes this opportunity to destroy Erusian radar sites in the northern region of the continent, allowing additional ISAF forces trapped on the mainland to retreat to North Point.

ISAF then begins a campaign to destroy Erusea's "Invincible" Aegir Fleet. After cutting off supply lines, Mobius Squadron attacks the fleet while it is in Comberth Harbor. The fleet is seriously damaged. With naval control of the east coast, ISAF launches Operation: Bunker Shot, an amphibious assault on the Usean mainland with landings in Saint Ark in the northeast and Caranda, Halle and Crowne beaches in the southeast. The operation is a success, and ISAF forces start to retake the continent. Soon afterwards, a group of engineers who built Stonehenge defect to ISAF.

With its ground forces again coming within range of Stonehenge, ISAF decides to launch an airborne attack on it. Mobius Squadron's lead pilot, Mobius One, singlehandedly destroys every cannon, and shoots down one pilot (Yellow 4) from Yellow Squadron when they arrive. ISAF quickly advances towards the west coast until facing fierce Erusian resistance in the Whiskey Corridor, a mountain pass between the Amber and Lambert mountain ranges. With air support from Mobius Squadron, ISAF forces are victorious, and eventually reach the Erusian capital of Farbanti. ISAF launches a ground attack from the east and an amphibious assault from the southwest. ISAF ground forces capture several high ranking Erusean officers and government officials who surrender after Mobius Squadron destroys all five aircraft of Yellow Squadron.

Post-War

After the Continental War, ISAF occupied Erusea for several years. In 2006, Mobius Squadron's flight lead was deployed to Erusea to fight the Free Erusea insurgency. The insurgents were defeated, and by the 2040s, ISAF ceased to exist.

Osea

Before the Belkan War
The known history of Osea doesn't go back so far; it starts from before the Belkan War.

Osea and Yuktobania (the twin world superpowers) seemed to be in a Cold War like standoff, which led to the drawing up of super weapons, although they wouldn't be implemented until later down the road. Meanwhile, Belka, a previously industrious, wealthy nation suffered a major blow to its economy, thanks to the cecedence of areas like Ustio and lack of the materials those areas provided.

Seeking to make a profit, several Osean companies made a deal with Belka. By selling the Great Lakes region to Osea, Belka would get a high percentage of the material mined there. Eager to improve their faltering economy, the Belkans accepted the terms, only to find that the claims were falsified; there was little precious material to be mined there. This hastened the collapse of the Belkan economy, and thus hastening the rise of fascism in Belka.

The Belkan War

On March 25 1995, the Belkans stormed the borders of Osea, Sapin, and Ustio, using Blitzkrieg war tactics, a combined assault of ground troops with heavy air support. This caught the nations by surprise, and the latter two were nearly completely annexed.

By mid April, though, the Belkan advanced stalled, and the long, hard push back into Belka began. Through heavy fighting, the Allies, now supported by Yuktobania and various other countries, were in control of most of South Belka. Only two obstacles stood in the Allies way of the Belkan heartland, Sudentor, the capital of South Belka, and Stier in the Waldreich's, a mountain range that separated the Belkas and where the North Belkan forces had retreated to. Rather than split the army in two, the Allies opted to leave three divisions to contain the remnants of the battle-weary South Belkan Army, while the rest attacked the main force in Waldriech.

After a couple of weeks of intense fighting, the Belkans realized they could no longer hold the South/North Belkan border, so on June 6, 1995, they committed an unthinkable act, they dropped seven nuclear bombs on the valley that connected the Belkas and killed over 120,000 people, forming an impenetratable barrier of nuclear radiation, but in doing so, they practically eliminated the population of Stier. Seeing the events unfold before them, the Allies opted not to follow the North Belkan forces, and end the war in the north.

The war was not entirely over though. Using the confusion caused by the EMP discharge from the nuclear explosions, the South Belkan army charged the Allies lines at Sudentor. Although the onslaught was great, the Allies held their ground, and in the end the Belkans ran out of steam. With no resources to look to, its country in shambles, Belka finally surrendered on June 20, 1995. In the truce, Osea was heavily favored and able to benefit greatly.

During the war, Osea sought to deploy the Strategic Orbital Linear Gun (SOLG) as a superweapon. It was meant to launch MIRV missiles at ground targets. However, shortly after the SOLG was deployed, the war came to a close.

In the midst of the war, two Osean sqaudrons, who had seen just about enough of the seemingly endless fighting, defected from the OADF and founded the radical globalization group called A World With No Boundaries, which tried to eliminate the concept of borders by terrorist acts, including launching a V2 nuclear missile to wipe out the whole planets population, but were unsuccessful and was dismantled.

Aftermath and Before the Circum-Pacific War

After the conflict ended, Osea, feeling a little bit responsible for the Belkan War, took a more liberal turn. Relations with Yuktobania rapidly improved from its pre-Belkan War state of Cold War-esqe plodding, and significant arms reduction programs were put into place. Also the Arkbird project began to build an international space station and to build a 'bridge to space.' An age of prosperity seemed to loom over the world, and it felt like this great era of peace would last forever.

Some Osean officials, however, weren't as pleased. Some of them were hardline, anti-Yuke warmongers, who looked for any excuse to go to war with Yuktobania. The then-newly elected Osean President Harling, however, kept them mostly in check with budget cuts to the military, causing many of them to leave.
Peace developed between the two nations, and they often collaborated in major projects like the Arkbird, an orbital spacecraft.

However, strange events took place within the Osean Government. In September of 2010, unidentified planes were spotted flying into Osean Airspace from the west. Officials insisted it was nothing, but even they had no clue at to what was truly happening.

Then, in late September, a flight of trainees and their instructor ran into a squadron of planes of unknown origins. The flight lead, Captain Jack "Heartbreak One" Bartlett, believing the squadrons were approaching at a high altitude, ordered the trainees to fly to a low altitude, where he thought they would avoid an engagement. The information he was given was incorrect; he had placed them directly in front of the unknown aircraft. 8 pilots died in the ensuing engagement. Any info regarding the engagement was classified, even pictures of the single trainee, Kei "Edge" Nagase, who survived the dogfight. Despite denials from the Osean Government pertaining to the skirmish, it was actually the beginning of the Circum-Pacific War.

The Circum-Pacific War

Unknown planes continued to make incursions over western Osea. A few days later, the survivors of the engagement, Cpt. Bartlett and Lt. Nagase, as well as two trainee pilots, Lt. Alvin H. "Chopper" Davenport and another unnamed lieutenant (commonly referred to as "Blaze"), tried to flag down a damaged SR-71 Blackbird spy plane of unknown origin. However, their attempt ended when additional unmarked fighters arrived to cover the spy plane. The 108th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Wardog (The Sand Island air squadron) shot down all the fighters, and the Blackbird was destroyed during the engagement.

Osean Central Command remained both angry at the Wardogs for engaging without clearance, and uncertain as to what was going on. Once again, they censored all information about the event, and continued to detain Albert Genette, a reporter who had witnessed the first engagement while flying in Cpt. Bartlett's F-4. A few days later the Sand Island Squadron delt with another incursion by reconnaissance aircraft (this time a ship and UAVs) and unmarked fighters. While the Sand Island Squadron was on its mission, in an apparent move of self-motivated aggression, Yuktobania declared war on Osea and attacked Osea's 3rd Fleet at Port St. Hewlett.

Many people were confused over why Osea's ally, Yuktobania, would declare war, but some officials in the militaries and governments of both countries were secretly thrilled with the prospect of the war they had longed for. In Osea case, there wasn't much to celebrate at the moment. Yuktobania delivered a one-two punch; first attacking Osea's naval center at Port St. Hewlett, then the major airbase and first line of defense at Sand Island. Only through the help of the Wardog Squadron, minus its commanding officer, Captain Bartlett, did the Oseans keep the day from being a complete disaster.

Osean commanders decided to rendezvous the Osean 3rd Fleet in Eaglin Straits to prepare for a counter attack. This operation turned into a disaster, as the remainder of the Osean 3rd Fleet, three Nimitz-class Aircraft Carriers (the Kestrel, the Buzzard, and the Vulture), were ambushed by the Yuktobanian submersible aircraft carrier Scinfaxi. The superweapon Scinfaxi first launched an airstrike on the fleet, but, when that failed, launched a volley of burst missiles at Eaglin Straits. While the Buzzard and the Vulture were sunk, the Kestrel managed to survive, however the sinking of two aircraft carriers shifted the war firmly in favor of Yuktobania. With the discovery of this Yuktobanian superweapon Osean High Command issued an order to arm the Arkbird, recently completed in President Harling's peaceful development plan, with a tactical laser. The SSTO carrying the laser barely made it off the ground, as the Yuktobanians attacked the mass driver during the launch preparations, likely through information delivered by spies. Who it was, was made clear in time. Once again, Wardog Sq found itself on the front lines, and successfully beat off the attack. The failed assault cost the Yuktobanians several transports, tanks, fighters, and four state-of-the art B-2 bombers.

The Sand Island detachment, who had recently added Hans Grimm to the Wardog Squadron, and a flight of nuggets fresh from basic flight training at Heirlark AFB, a former Belkan base in North Osea, were tasked with stopping an invasion fleet from taking Sand Island. Things were going smoothly until the Scinfaxi appeared. Despite the valiant efforts of Wardog and the Arkbird, many of the rookies were shot down. Luckily, the Scinfaxi was eliminated due to the combined powers of the Arkbird and the Wardog Squadron.

A few weeks went by with relative peace. Refreshed by the idea of using the Arkbird to bring Yuktobania to the negotiation table, Harling attempted to hold peace talks in North Point, a neutral Usean nation where ISAF had its GHQ to defend from Erusea, in late October, 2004. Several hardliners, however, were not so enthusiastic. They couldn't let him end the war they had worked so hard for. Harling's plane never landed in North Point after the mysterious 8492nd Squadron intercepted it.

After the president's departure, the administration's policy, now being decided by the vice president, dramatically changed. Osea prepared an invasion force of around half a million men. The neutralization of the Arkbird further complicated things. After a hard fought victory at Volna beach on the Bastok Peninsula, Wardog destroyed the retreating airborne forces from Bastok. Although the mission was a success, Wardog was blamed for attacking a civilian engineering college. They were called back to the capital for a tribunal, but were quickly sent back to the front when they proved their worth by defending either an airport where reference to Ace Combat 4 when a report from an Erusian airliner was transmitted, or a the city of Bana. After destroying some Yuktobanian supplies, the Oseans took part in a daring advance into central Yuktobania, but it was only possible thanks to strategic air support from Wardog.

As they continued to push north towards the Yuktobanian capital of Cinigrad, it seemed nothing could stop them, not the Jilachi Desert, nor the massive Cruik Fortress, and although both battles were bloody, the support of Wardog Sqadron pushed the land forces to victory. The loss of a Razgriz pilot (the adopted name of Wardog, after hearing the Yukes call them that) came as a shock to the military as a whole, but the military pushed on and Cinigrad fell. Unfortunately for Osea, the army was bogged down, and the Yuktobanian capital remained out of reach.

Like its namesake, Stalingrad, the advance of the invaders stopped at Cinigrad. The large size of the Yuktobanian population came into play, and after making a good early showing, they began to give up ground. Slowly, but surely, the Yukes were retaking their land. Little did either government know, but the Belkan Grey Men were secretly playing on both sides of the court and trying to exhaust both sides.

The OFS Kestrel, with a massively reduced airwing, and her fleet found President Harling in captivity in Stier Castle in Belka and conducted a rescue operation, eventually returning him to Oured. The Kestrel and her small yet very effective airwing would also rescue Prime Minister Nikanor of Yuktobania, also kidnapped by Grey Men loyalists. The Kestrel's air wing became known as the Ghosts of Razgriz around this time, as their fighting style and effectiveness brought memories of the presumed-dead Wardog Squadron. The Razgriz would fight both Osean and Yuktobanian forces while protecting a joint task force of "traitorous" Osean and Yuktobanian ships carrying Prime Minister Nikanor. The Razgriz stopped the enemy fleet from destroying the joint fleet, although the Kestrel was sunk by submarine-launched Silkworms. The next day, Harling reappeared in the capital with Nikanor and, in a joint live press conference, they explained to the people of both countries the true cause of the war due to treachery of the Grey Men. The Circum-Pacific War, with the exception of a few die-hards and mop-up operations, was over.

The warmongers from both sides didn't give up, and they tried to use the old Strategic Orbital Linear Gun developed during the Belkan War by the Oseans in 1995. Scrapped because the Belkan War ended before the SOLG could be deployed, they secretly resurrected the SOLG and made it fully operational. The warmongers used their loyal troops to protect SOLG's control facility in Sudentor in an effort to obtain the V1 weapon promised to them by the Grey Men, not knowing of the V2 MIRV missiles on the SOLG. However, with the treachery of the warmongers and Grey Men now known, the Yuktobanian and Osean forces united behind the Razgriz Squadron to attack the die-hards. With Razgriz leading the assault, the Allied Forces overwhelmed the defenders of Sudentor and destroyed the SOLG's ground control station. Unfortunately, the SOLG's failsafe in case of the destruction of ground control, brought it down onto the planet, with its impact point targeted in Oured. Lifting off on a final mission, the Razgriz went to attack the descending satellite. They were intercepted by the combined force of the Belkan aggressor squadrons, Ofnir & Grabacr. They fought and killed both squadrons, then moved on to destroy the SOLG before it made impact with the city.

Sapin
In 1995, Belka invaded Sapin, as well as Osea and Ustio. Sapin, the Osean Federation, the Union of Yuktobanian Republics, and the Republic of Ustio formed the Allied Forces. The Allies won the war and regained their land. In 2020, Sapin still exists, although it is not involved in the Circum-Pacific War or the events of Ace Combat X.

Ustio
:See also Nations and Organizations of Ace Combat - Ustio.
Belkan Federation Member State
The known history of Ustio starts in the 80's. Ustio was a member of the Belkan Federation, which was led by the two main Belkan states, South Belka and North Belka. Ustio was rich in natural resources, oil, steel, and iron to name a few, which were used by Belka to spur on their industrial boom of the early and mid 80's. Ustians, however, did not see much of the profit of the mining and oil drilling, since those things were regulated by the Belkan Federals in Sudentor. There was uneasiness between the two, and it was starting to show.

The Belkan Law Review and Ustian Independence
The Belkans were concerned that the tensions in the Belkan Federation might destroy the economy. So in 1988, the Belkan Federation enacted The Federal Law Review, a way for Belkan Federation states to voice their opinion on and put forth new laws. In the eyes of the Belkan federalists, who truly just wanted the federation to work right, this was a way to streamline the Federation and solve any issues that may have occurred.

All that changed when a Federation state put forward the motion to secede. Unbelievely, it got a majority and the cecession was ratified. Following in its foot steps, Ustio also put forward the motion to secede, and again it was ratified. Ustio used most of its resources on domestic affairs and the rest was exported to Osea. Some have said that Osea was behind the cecession, but there is no evidence to support such a claim. Without the resources that were Belka's lifeline, the Federation's economy collapsed, causing inflation and unemployment rates to skyrocket. By contrast Ustio's economy was in good shape, it built up its military for a defensive role. The nation also realized the importance of early warning radar, and purchased at least one AWACS plane.

The Belkan War
As the years passed, Belka began to rebuild its economy. A fascist regime had taken control of the Federation, and it was scraping every available resource together to form the ultimate fighting force. This was an everything or nothing affair; the propaganda and facade of Belka was paper thin as they knew the country was dying, but they were determined to fight one last war to the bitter end.

Meanwhile, the Ustians were looking on wearily. they could see that Belka was up to something, but trusted their safety in Osea's hands, if they could react in time, the Belkans would be stopped in their tracks. As a precaution, though, bases like Valais AFB were built to protect defendable areas of Ustio.

Then, in March 1995, a massive deposit of natural resources was found under the Ustian mountain range. Belka, realizing that now was the time to strike, declared the Belkan Federal Law Review unconstitutional, and advanced upon the borders of Ustio, Sapin, and Osea.

In the first waves, the Belkan Air Force destroyed an estimated 90% of the Ustian airforce. Unable to provide aerial support to their troops, the Ustian military withdrew their remaining forces to the mountain range. It was there that the Ustians made the unprecedented decision to supplement the vast losses taken by their airforce with Mercenary pilots. Examples of this are the Galm Squadron (6th Air Division / 66th Air Force Unit) and the Crow Squadron (6th Air Division / 4th Air Force Unit) both of which are comprised entirely of mercenaries.

This force was able to turn the tide on the eastern front, and they inched their way north, liberating all of Ustio, and pressing into South Belka. At this point, the Ustio Air Force cooperated with forces from Osea, Yuktobania and Sapin to form the Allied Forces. Belka's military began to retreat to the "Holy" land of North Belka, and when defeat became certain, they detonated seven nuclear bombs in the passage to North Belka, sealing the passage to the north forever.

During the duration of the war, Ustian pilots often took on daring assignments, such as the attack on the Belkan Superlaser "Excalibur" which was headed by Galm and Crow flights, as well as many dogfights in the Round Table. Despite the involvement of the Ustio airforce, the Belkan war is generally remembered for the roles played by Osea and Yuktobania. Few remember that it was the resources in and around Ustio that made Belka declare war in the first place.

===The "A World With No Boundaries" Crisis===
In the final days of the war, when the fighting in southern Belka was reaching its climax, soldiers from both sides defected and joined the newly formed group "A World With No Boundaries" whose leadership included many of Belka's surviving Aces. Their goal was to eliminate all borders and form a global state, by any and all means necessary.

The group got a hold of the abandoned experimental Belkan superbomber, the XB-0 Hresvelgr, and made it their staging area for attacks. The group laid low, attracting members from Osea and Sapin to their cause even before the Belkan War officially ended. After the war ended however, A World With No Boundaries put its plan into motion.

On Christmas day, they sent the Hresvelgr on a bombing mission to attack Lumen, the city in which a peace treaty was being signed between Osea and Belka. The Hresvelgr then moved onto Valais Air Base in Ustio, but was shot down by Galm flight. The duo of Sapin defectors (The Espada Squadron) guarding the behemoth were also downed with it. The group then attempted to launch the recently completed V2 nuclear missile from a launch facility located at the Avalon Dam in Mund Valley in the north of Belka, but Galm 1 managed to damage the launch control mechanism before the launch was completed. Finally, after Cipher shot down the last remaining ace of the organization, his old wingman, Pixy, the group was disbanded.

After The Belkan War
Not much is known about Ustio's fate after the Belkan War, but according to the map during briefing in Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War, Ustio still exists in 2010. However, it appears to have a minimal role in international affairs.

Yuktobania
:See also Nations and Organizations of Ace Combat - Yuktobania.

Yuktobania appears clearly as an important ally of Osea, Ustio and all the other aggressed countries during the Belkan War in 1995. Yuktobania engaged many resources into the victory of the "Allies", and from this moment it became as an official ally of Osea. After the Belkan war, Yuktobania recruited a Belkan air squadron known as the Ofnir, who would lead Yuktobania into a war with Osea in 2010. Yuktobania developed two submarine attack carriers, Scinfaxi and Hrimfaxi, capable of launching burst missiles which can wipe out anything below 5000 feet. Yuktobania is one of the four countries capable of making nuclear weapons. Yuktobania also participated in the joint-project with Osea of making the Arkbird, a maneuvering orbital spacecraft - the first step into building "the bridge of peace".

In 2010, Belkan factions kidnapped Prime Minister Nikanor and swayed the Yuktobanian military to take over and attack Osea, a long-time ally. Yuktobania was on the offensive before the war escalated, but was quickly pushed back into their own soil after. Aside from conventional warfare, Yuktobanian strategies involve terrorist attacks and surprise attacks on civilian targets. During the war, both Scinfaxi and Hrimfaxi were sunk by the Sand Island Squadron of Osea. The squadron became known as the "Razgriz" and effectively destroyed Yuktobanian morale throughout the course of the war. After the fall of the Cruik Fortress, the last stronghold guarding the capital Cinigrad, Yuktobania holds off the Osean army in the streets of Cinigrad & started pushing back the Osean army, regaining some lost territory. The Razgriz later rescued Prime Minister Nikanor from the Belkans, and Nikanor persuaded his country to end the war on the Osean carrier, the Kestrel. This has led some Yuktobanian vessels to call Nikanor a traitor, while others joined the Osean Kestrel fleet (which Nikanor was in). The former then fired on the latter, and attempted to sink the Kestrel. Some Osean ships also called Kestrel a traitor for joining forces with the enemy. The resulting chaos was ended by the Razgriz, who sunk all ships hostile to the Kestrel and her fleet. Then Prime Minister Nikanor shook hands with President Harling of Osea in a televised speech, formed a coalition with Osea and turned the war against Belka instead. The conflict finally ended with a victory in the North Osean/South Belkan city of Sudentor.
