Historic South is an area in central and east-central Georgia, United States. The region carries a strong cultural and architectural heritage. It contains three chief areas: Historic Heartland, Classic South, and Magnolia Midlands. Geography The Historic South covers the central and east-central portions of the state. It contains the counties of: *Appling *Bacon *Baldwin *Bibb *Bleckley *Butts *Candler *Coffee *Columbia *Crawford *Dodge *Emanuel *Evans *Hancock *Henry *Houston *Jasper *Jefferson *Jenkins *Johnson *Jones *Laurens *Lincoln *Long *McDuffie *Monroe *Montgomery *Morgan *Newton *Oconee *Oglethorpe *Peach *Pulaski *Richmond *Rockdale *Taliaferro *Tattnall *Telfair *Toombs *Treutlen *Twiggs *Walton *Washington *Wayne *Wheeler *Wilkes Major cities include Augusta and Macon.
