Hillbilly Arm Drop Drags

Hillbilly Arm Drop Drags is a division of Prestonsburg Motorsports, a non-profit organization. The drags were founded in 2010 by Prestonsburg police chief Michael Ormarod, mayor Jerry Fannin, and local race Kent Rose.
History
The city of Prestonsburg was looking for an attraction to bring people in the city. The event began with a burn out contest in downtown Prestonsburg, KY. Only 6 cars participated but thousands turned out to watch. After outgrowing downtown Prestonsburg the event was moved to the Mountain Arts Center. Dealing with more participants and a larger crowd, they started a short drag race in the parking lot to entertain the crowd.
The local event organizers started looking for a larger venue. They settled at the Combs Airport between Prestonsburg and Paintsville, Kentucky. Combs Airport had recently been downgraded from a small public airport to a small private airport by the Federal Aviation Administration. After receiving permission from the Combs Airport Board, the organizers had there their first race in the Fall of 2011 and now is the event’s home location. Now, the event draws over 300 competitors and over 10,000 spectators. The event was listed in Hot Rod Magazine as a “must see” drag strip.
In 2012 Man Bites Dog Films began production on Hillbilly Drags. A reality tv show based on the Hillbilly Arm Drop Drags & Kent Rose.
