Hillaeometry

Hillaeometry (American Political Slang; hilla Hillary, emetry measure) is a part of Electoral College mathematics concerned with questions of state size (population & area), Delagate count and importance of political figures with a vote at the August 2008 Democratic Convention in Denver, Colorado.

Hillaeometry is one of the strangest experiences of Presidential elections. While similar actions have been used since the 1960's in various elections, the 2008 Democratic Primary race is the first time these defensive tactics have been used on a national level. It is also referred to as 'Moving the Goal Posts' or 'Life Support campaigning' and has successfully raised the ratings of several cable news channels like CNN, Fox 'News' Channel and MSNBC.

Initially, in 2007, all Democratic candidates followed the request of the Iowa and New Hampshire Democratic Parties to not campaign in Michigan and Florida after those states moved up the dates of their primary elections. Hillaemetry was developed as by Clinton campaign staffers and surrogates like Bill Clinton, Maggie Williams, Terry McAuliffe and Richard Wolfson. As Senator Clinton fell farther behind in the elected and super-delegate count, members of the Clinton campaign stepped up their mantra of moving the goalposts from 2025 to 2209 (by adding 1/2 of each delegate from Mighigan and Florida) and other fact-creation (elected delegates from big states versus small states / super-delegates / race and gender statistics / donations / primary versus caucuses) to keep Senator Clinton in the race until the Denver Convention.

The field of television punditry, especially the positions of conservative commentators like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly and Shawn Hannity, have greatly assisted Senator Clinton as they advocated for Republican voters to cross the line and vote for her - in hopes that AZ. Senator John McCain would be better able to defeat her compared to Senator Obama.
