Hawaii Free Press is a twice-monthly, independent, locally owned alternative newspaper published in Hilo, Hawaii since January 2005. It was founded by Andrew Walden, and has as its motto, "The untold story, the unspoken opinion, the other side." The paper's circulation is 15,000 and it is distributed at retail locations on Hawaii Island, Moloka`i, and Lana`i. The newspaper covers political, social, cultural, and economic issues from local to international, and give voice to points of view based on free enterprise, small government, and individual liberty. A June 28, 2008, Washington Post story accused Walden of being among the first to spread the rumor of U.S. Presidential candidate Barack Obama's Muslim-upbringing Walden answered the Posts claims in a June 29, 2008, article. Hawaii Free Press revisited the issue one year later as Obama and Wa Po trumpet Obama's "Islamic Roots": Walden is also author of The Ron Paul Campaign and its Neo-nazi Supporters, which was featured on the Michael Medved show in November 2007. Hawaii Free Press is not affiliated with the now-defunct Honolulu-based counterculture paper of the same title, published by the SDS in the 1968-70 period.[http://uhmanoa.lib.hawaii.edu/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?SCTitle&SEQ20060822093617&PID4740&SAHawaii+free+press],
