Hammer down protocol

A hammer down protocol is a planned series of military offensive tactics in which a target location such as an area, political region like a city, town , state or even a country is completely destroyed using highly explosive detonation devices such as tactical nuclear weapons or napalm bombs. This is sometimes refered to as a carpet bombing.

The hammer down protocol is normally a last resort measure to attempt and completely eliminate a hostile entity.
Evacuation procedures are executed prior to such a move to attempt to save civilian lives from within the area of containment.

Hammer down protocols have had a great presence in modern Hollywood cinema. Some examples include:
In Pop Culture
*The attack on the monster during the final part of the movie Cloverfield.

*The nuclear detonation at the end of Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.
*Attack on zombies in 28 Weeks Later.
*The attempted cleansing of a small town in Outbreak.
