H2hos

The H2Hos were the first renegade feminist synchronised swimming troupe performing in Austin, Texas, actively producing shows from 2001 - 2006. As a directorless collective, the troupe consisted of synchronized swimmers, musicians, costume designers and set designers, who shared decisions of choreography, concept, production, and logistics.
Without formal training as synchronized swimmers, the troupe taught themselves to swim reconstructing moves from vintage coaching manuals and Busby Berkeley films.
The troupe began in 2001 by staging shows illegally in apartment complex swimming pools in South Austin, annually staged a unique summer production, free to the community from 2002 - 2005 at the Elk's Lodge on Dawson Street, and eventually composed commissioned productions at private residences across the city as fundraisers for Women and Their Work Gallery.
In 2002, the troupe was awarded "Best Feminist Synchronized Swimming Troupe" from the Austin Chronicle, and in 2004 the troupe was awarded "Best Fundraiser" from the Austin Chronicle for its ‘Making Waves’ performance on Behalf of Women and Their Work Gallery.
Former members of the collective include Grant Barger, Julie Burgardt, Ajae Clearway, Krista Del Gallo, Anne Willis Glickman, Molly Gove, Elliott Hostetter, Matt Houston, Jeff Johnston, Chico Jones, Erin Kelly, Kasaia Luckel, Michelle Marchesseault, Paula McDermott, Maggy McGiffert, Carter York, Jason Neufeld, Josh Parks, Rachael Shannon, Sarah Walker, and Virginia Yount.
