Born: August 15 Sujapur, Ludhiana, Punjab, INDIA Height: 1.91 m Vir Chakra (VrC) Awardee: Subedar Gurdev Singh Hans, VrC Gazette Notification: 94 Pres/72,19-8-72 Operation: 1971 Cactus Lily Date of Award: 04 Dec 1971 Citation: Subedar Gurdev Singh Hans was platoon subedar of a platoon of Sikh Regiment deployed in an area in the Western Sector. On 3 December 1971, his company position was attacked by the enemy in overwhelming strength, supported by heavy and accurate artillery fire. Subedar Gurdev Singh Hans moved from bunker to bunker encouraging and inspiring his men. It was largely due to him that the attack was repulsed. Throughout, Havildar Gurdev Singh Hans displayed gallantry, determination, leadership and devotion to duty of a high order. |
