Greenpants Publishing is a small press based out of Brooklyn, New York, though they are said to have offices in both Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington. They operate discreetly, boasting that, “Other than E-mail, we have nothing to do with the internet.” They consider themselves the Robin Hoods of the Publishing world, and though they are said to have published nearly a dozen titles since their estimated beginning in 2007, there remains virtually no proof, as their titles are all produced and distributed by way of third party subsidy services. Greenpants Publishing itself, however, is a private organization, which pays their authors small advances, as well as nearly half of any sales. www.greenpantspublishing.webs.com Literary Agent Paul Rhodes has been rumored to have started the company as, “a means for modern authors who, despite their importance to literary culture, have remained otherwise unrecognized. If there were more organizations such as ours—organizations that are operated nearly one hundred percent via word of mouth—there might be a chance for some good literature to survive these awful times. We operate beneath the radar, offering talented individuals the opportunity to exist.” There is no way for either agents or authors to submit to Greenpants, as their small, nameless staff is said to seek out authors via previously reviewed manuscripts from a number of publishing houses and Literary Agencies, both small and large. “This is where the Robin Hood aspect comes in: we have people on the inside who are willing to revolt. We run a tight ship,” boasts Paul Rhodes in a 2008 press release. We do what we can, and though our titles are often printed in various texts via various organizations, one can rest assured that there’s a physical author list out there somewhere. Call us elitists without any reputation, call me Tom Joad.”
