Grayson Hopper

Grayson Hopper is a betta fish captured on the live streamed version of the Gameboy game Pokemon Red known as Fish Plays Pokemon. Grayson Hopper has become popular and his channel has become viral over the internet.
Inspired by Twitch Plays Pokémon, a similar experiment where viewers could control the characters movement, in Fish Plays Pokemon Grayson is the only one responsible for the characters movements. Grayson's movements were captured on a webcam using motion capture technology. The webcam divides its footage into a 3x3 grid of nine squares, eight of which correspond to buttons on a Gameboy (Up, Left, Right, Down, Start, Select, A, and B). When Grayson moves, the emulator technology presses the appropriate button on the emulator. The ninth button is labeled "Randomize", and, when pressed, randomly rearranges all the buttons. Grayson Hopper has been playing for 160 Hours.
Game Progress
Grayson has been playing the game since the "new game" button was selected and has managed to proceed into the playable portion of the game. Grayson selected the pre-determined name "Ash" to use as his in-game persona and selected the custom name "BB" to use as his rivals name. From there Grayson proceeded to exit the town and be brought back to Professor Oak's lab in order to select a Pokémon for his journey. After selecting Charmander, giving it the nickname AAAABBK and defeating the rival's Squirtle, Grayson has since been wandering the expanses of Pallet Town.
Reception
Fish Plays Pokémon received mixed reviews. While some referred to it as the successor of successful Twitch Plays Pokemon, others considered it being "slow, boring and pointless". The fact is that it has received over 2 100 000 views as of August 8, and has had as many as 13 500 people watching it at the same time.
On August 8, 2014, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation published a blog post describing online reaction to Fish Plays Pokemon, including social media posts by fans who are "simply baffled by how entertaining it can be to watch a fish play Pokemon" and fan-made art published at the official subreddit set up by the team responsible for the experiment.
