Global Talk

Global Talk is a cooperative publication featuring articles and expressions in many of the languages taught at the University of Oregon. Study abroad returnees and other interested students, both native and non-native speakers, create much of the content and help with editing and other tasks.
Global Talk was founded in 2005 and is the only student publication in the history of the university to be entered into the University of Oregon Scholars' Bank, an open-access digital repository created to capture, distribute, and preserve the intellectual output of the University of Oregon.
Global Talk is based on topics of interest for all languages and includes a total of 14 language sections. Each section is one page long and includes both English and the target language. Currently Global Talk features Chinese, French, Dutch, Farsi, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Scandinavian, Slavic, Swahili, Portuguese, Spanish, and other minor languages unrepresented by major departments at the University of Oregon.

Global Talk is funded by several departments at the UO and was founded in November 2005. It is the first university of Oregon multilingual publication published within the university system and within the whole state of Oregon. Global Talk was first created at Florida State university in 2004. [http://www.fsu.edu/~globaltalk] The main goal of Global Talk is to provide an outlet for students and anybody interested in language and culture and provide a place to bring language and culture together promoting a basic and advanced linguistic and cultural understanding of all languages taught at the University of Oregon and spoken within the community of Eugene, Oregon.
