Global campfire

The term Global Campfire has been coined by the researcher Jim Stolze to describe the social aspects of the world wide web in the last couple of years. Many things that people did by their campfires are now replaced by online behaviour. For example story telling, singing, discusion and turning strangers into good friends.

Virtual happiness
According to Stolze, we don't live in the age of Kumbaya anymore. Technology has broken down the walls of places and time,
making it possible to interact, anyplace and anytime. The internet had become a place that shapes our mind and drives social interaction.

This observation has lead to the hypothesis that spending time in online communities creates virtual happiness. The Virtual Happiness Project is a research project that wants to further examine the effects of online behaviour on offline happiness.
