</noinclude>Giggleberries Giggleberries is an idiomatic and metaphorical euphemism of the individual words giggle and berries that have become a slang meaning for the word testicles and less offensive than other alternative expressions, such as the word bollocks Origins Euphemisms are commonly found throughout language as they enable the speaker use them as a more agreeable or less offensive expression of what it is they are talking about or referring to. Giggleberries in particularly is euphemism that is constructed of two separate words to form an idiom or idiomatic expression to describe testicles and whilst the actual origins of the expression is unknown its metaphorical analogy can be both physical and emotional. The first part of the idiom, giggle, can relate to testicles in both the emotional and physical sense. Human genitalia per se can be a source of humour and sexual pleasure, which has the potential to give rise to a person giggling through either physical stimulation or emotional response to the connotations associated with testicles, which may be child like or adult in representation. Children may often chuckle or giggle at the use of words such as testicles because of the perceived rudeness or embarrassment of them, whereas in adult humour a persons laughter, chuckles and giggles may be derived from its sexual connotations. A more reserved and prudish society may also make greater use of giggleberries as a euphemism for embarrassing or taboo words such as testicles dependent on the situation. The plural word berries forms the later part of the idiom because of the physical metaphorical analogy between berries in the sense of fleshy fruits such as a grapes or cherries that hang from the plant just as testicles hang in pairs in a scrotum from the groin to form the male generative gland. Usage The use of the word is not widely referenced, although it has widely become an increasingly common euphemism and associated with the meaning of testicles. Many references can be found on the internet to the use of giggleberries as a euphemism for testicles in the phrase 'twig and giggleberries' and where twig is a euphemism itself to the penis. One particular and popular citation was in the film American Pie when Kevin (played by actor Thomas Ian Nicholas) said to Jim (played by Jason Biggs), “So, how are the twig and giggleberries this morning?”
