Georgia Blizzard of 2011

Georgia and much of the Southeastern United States, such as Alabama, Mississippi,Arkansas, and portions of Texas, Lousiana, and Tennessee, woke to a thick blanket of snow on Monday, January 10, 2011. This storm had been predicted about a week in advance and fulfilled the promises of many meteorologists. Unlike most winter storms in this area, this one produced mostly snow and minimal ice on the roads.
Local Behavior
As typical in the southern ares of the US, many Georgians flocked to the local grocery stores days in advance in preparation for the storm. People could be spotted with southern-snow "staple" items in their shopping buggies such as milk, eggs, bread, and beer.
Local Closings
As early as Saturday, January 8, 2011 schools, churches, and other places of business and gathering were reporting closings. As many as 36 hours before the first snow flake fell to the ground.
