George E. Walker

George E. Walker, the great-great grandfather of President George H. W. Bush, was born in New Jersey or Maryland ca. 1797. According to one source he was sent as an orphan by his guardian to (now university) boarding school in Emmitsburg Maryland in 1811 and 1812. He married Harriet Mercer (Maryland 1802 - Bloomington IL -1869) in Baltimore in 1821. The family moved from Cecil County, Maryland, to McLean County, Illinois, in 1838.

They had 10 children, including Edward S. Walker (Maryland 1835 - Illinois 1876), David Davis Walker (Bloomington IL 1840 - Kennebunkport, ME 1918), Rosetta Walker (1842 - 1919), and Benjamin Walker I. He died in Bloomington in 1864.

George E. Walker was a son of Capt. Thomas Walker (England, ca. 1758 - at sea 1797/98) and Catherine McLelland (Unk - Pennsylvania 1806).

“D.D.” Walker was the father of George Herbert Walker grandfather of the first President Bush.
