Geneva Red Wings

The Geneva Red Wings are a summer wood bat collegiate baseball team in Geneva, NY which plays in the New York Collegiate Baseball League. They currently play their home games in McDonough Park, which is where Hall of Famer Tony Perez and Pete Rose played their first professional games. McDonough Park, first named Shuron Field was originally built in 1958 and was dedicated to long time General Manager of Geneva Community Sports, Joseph McDonough in 1971. McDonough Park was home to several professional minor league teams throughout its existence. Originally built for the Reds, the Twins, Senators, and Pirates made stops in Geneva. The last professional team to play at McDonough were the Cubs which left the old ballpark in 1993. This move occurred at a time when many minor league towns lost their teams due to Major League Baseball's new minimum stadium requirements for minor league facilities. The old ballpark has since been rescued from the wrecking ball and has slowly become the jewel of the NYCBL. The Red Wings under their current ownership and management have been tenants of McDonough Park and members of the NYCBL since 2002.

The Red Wings are the newest tenant at McDonough Park. In their tenure at the old ballpark many improvements have been made. As of November of 2007 the Red Wings have completed the following renovations:

2005 The Pavilion was built down the first base line for party's and concessions, remodeled the concession area.

2006 Parts of the old bleachers were removed and work was started to remodel the seating area. Party decks were added to the areas where the old bleachers were removed. The decks are two tiered and are handicapped accessible on the third base line. The concourse was also re-paved.

2007 Infield was resurfaced with 150 Tons of conditioner, edged, and rolled for more consistent play.

Future wish lists include: a new grass infield, a new corporate sponsored scoreboard, and new outfield walls and warning tracks.

In 2007 the Geneva Red Wings played in the Western Division of the NYCBL against The Elmira Pioneers, Niagara Falls Power, Brockport Riverbats, Webster Yankees, Bolivar A's, Hornell Dodgers and the Allegany County Nitros.
