Gangsta P

Gangsta P is a West Coast gangsta rapper from Oakland, California.

In 1995 he recorded his only album entitled Meet The Lil' Gangsta which was put out on Erin Records. He also appeared on his close friend and fellow Oakland rapper Seagram's Reality Check. Both albums advocate a laid back G-funk style, a style which the two are credited as having brought to Oakland after its popularization by other artists in other areas of California.

Gangsta P was also featured on the 1996 compilation album America Is Dying Slowly organized by the Red Hot Organization representing the Bay area's support to raise money for the fight against AIDS with the song Check Ya Self along with fellow Oakland rappers Spice 1, Celly Cel, 187 Fac, and Ant Banks.

On July 31st, 1996 he was with Seagram in an Oakland area known as The Twomps in the early hours of the morning when an unknown gunman appeared and opened fire upon the two. Seagram shielded Gangsta P from the brunt of the blast and was slain. Gangsta P was also seriously injured but would survive the incident with multiple gunshot wounds. The murder of Seagram Miller remains unsolved.

After the loss of his best friend, Gangsta P has apparently retired from rap, limiting his performances to guest appearances on fellow Bay area friends' albums. His current whereabouts and status are unknown. Gangsta P and Seagram would be remembered on the Oakland streets as the G-funk pioneers of the rap in the Bay being two of the only rappers at the time to popularize G-funk in the Bay which would influence and diversify the styles of many Oakland rappers to come.
