From The Pavilion

From the Pavilion, or "FTP" is a free Internet browser-based cricket management game. It is one of the fastest growing online games, boasting a rapidly growing member base. During a match, commentary, graphs and scorecards are displayed for both teams, adding that extra bit of realism when playing.

When an account is first created a user is given 2 sides, a senior and a youth squad, from which the user must field a side for one Senior One Day game (50 overs a side), a senior Twenty20 game and a Youth One Day (40 overs a side) game each week. From the commencement of season 3 a "Pavilion Cup" was introduced, with the top 1024 teams progressing in a knockout competion with prizemoney rapidly increasing each week.

There are currently 18 countries, containing countries from powerhouses like Australia, England and India, to minnow nations such as USA, Kenya and The Nederlands, to name a few. While users can only enter teams into the leagues of 10 different countries, the other 8 countries have a national representative team.

The leagues of each country are in a constant state of flux, with the top team each year being promoted to the next tier of competition and the bottom 2 teams dropping out, or being "demoted".

The game is free for all users to play. Membership can be bought, however offers no strategic advantage.

Gameplay

The players in From The Pavilion are fictional and exist only in the game. They all have a skill set of Batting, Bowling, Technique, Power, Fielding, Keeping, Endurance, Captaincy, Experience and Form. Each skill is rated on a scale of Atrocious to Legendary, and the ratings of all skills combine to provide the player with a rating and a weekly wage which is roughly representational of their skill level.

Players train every week in their respective senior or youth academies and the area each player trains in is set by the user on a weekly basis. As a player invests money into their academy its level increases in proportion to the amount invested, with respect to the national academy investment average. Players in the Youth Academy train faster then those in the Senior Academy, however once players reach 19 years of age they will receive no benefit from training at all until promoted into the Senior Academy.

As a player plays a game they fatigue with every ball faced, bowled, fielded or captained. Energy can only be recovered by 2 ways, at the end of every day the player recovers a little, or resting the player from training for the week will also allow him to gain some extra energy. Any player playing on less the "Rested" fatigue will have a reduction in skills, making control of fatigue a vital part of the game.

Each team has a ground (members can name theirs) with a starting capacity of 5000 and can be expanded. The pitch type can be changed for each type of game (SOD, T20, YOD) and each pitch type has an advantage associated with it, from a hard pitch advantaging batters to a crumbling or uneven pitch giving spin or seam bowlers the upper hand. Each country has a particular weather condition for a given day which cannot be influenced by any user. Each weather pattern also affects the fatigue players accrue during the game, a hot day will make it harder for players to perform and result in faster energy lost.

For each match, orders for each team (entered 30min prior to the toss) are entered, giving players orders from Defensive to Aggressive and setting a teams Captain, Wicket-Keeper and Bowling order.

From The Pavilion also has a transfer market, where players can be auctioned off to the highest bidder. It costs $1000 to list a player on the market and the listing will remain for 72 hours

Competitions

There are several different kinds of competitions in From The Pavilion with each one testing a different mangerial skill set of the user. There are One day competions for both Senior and Youths, a Twenty 20 competions and a knockout competition for the top managers.

*Senior One Day - 50 Overs each team, Bowled in 10 spells of 5 overs.
*Twenty 20 - 20 Overs each team, Bowled in 10 spells of 2 overs. Open for Senior players only.
*Youth One Day - 40 Overs each team, Bowled in 10 spells of 4 overs. Open for Youths only.
*Pavilion Cup - The top 1024 teams (as set by rankings) play 10 rounds of Senior One Day matches, competing for a first place prize of $1,000,000. When knocked out, teams can organise friendly matches against other knocked out teams.

Pavilion Cup History

The inaurgual Pavilion Cup is currently taking place, with the final to be played on the 13th of July. User cellinis (of Ephemeral) took the "Test Cup" out, a dry run for the real deal to occur the next season. It was contested by a smaller pool 128 teams.

Internationals

The International setup is currently in its infancy with the coaches for the Senior Sides determined and Elections for the national Youth Side commencing in the near future.

Academy Controversy

At the beginning of the third season, the managers whose teams compete in Bangladesh banded together to reduce the average investment of their countries academies as much as possible with the aim of saving money by being able to invest the average amount while still only investing a tiny amount compared to the other countries average investment. Their estimated seasonal saving is in excess of $700,000.
