Frenchtown Square Mall

Frenchtown Square Mall is a regional shopping mall located north of Monroe, Michigan, United States. The mall features over 50 stores, a food court, and a theater. Anchor stores include Elder-Beerman, Elder-Beerman Home Store, Sears, Steve & Barry's and Target. The mall is owned by the Cafaro Company of Youngstown, Ohio.

History
Frenchtown Square Mall opened in 1987 with four anchor stores: Elder-Beerman, Hills, Phar-Mor and Sears. JCPenney was added a year later as a fifth anchor. Hills closed in 1993 and was replaced with Target In the late 1990s, while Phar-Mor closed and was replaced with Office Max and an Elder-Beerman home store in 1998. Office Max has since closed and is currently vacant. JCPenney closed in 2005, and was replaced by Steve & Barry's in the same year.

Lemstone Books
In 2001, Frenchtown Square Mall filed a complaint against Lemstone Books, a chain of religious-themed book and gift shops. Lemstone Books had opened in the mall in 1989, and was signed to a ten-year lease agreement. The Lemstone store at Frenchtown Square closed in early 1999, approximately six months before the expiration of the lease; as a result, the mall filed a complaint against Lemstone for breach of contract. Lemstone had claimed that Alpha Gifts, a more recent mall tenant, was selling similar goods to those offered at Lemstone, thus causing the store to close; the mall, however, claimed that it was "free to lease and restrict its other clients as it saw fit".
