Frazan Adil Kotwal is an Indian opera and western classical singer, born in Mumbai and raised in Pune, is also a Zoroastrian priest.
Life and education
Frazan Adil Kotwal is as an opera and art song singer (baritone), he is also a zoroastrian Priest.
Frazan Adil Kotwal was born in Mumbai, India. He has played viola for several years before discovering his passion for classical singing in 2013. From 2011, he studied mass media and journalism at Jaihind College in Mumbai, where he graduated in 2015. During his study, he also appeared in various theater productions throughout India and worked as a freelance journalist. From 2011, Frazan Adil Kotwal initiated classical music projects for slum children in Mumbai. In addition, he also organized youth music groups for the understanding and learning of classical music. He founded the "Musikkreis Gruppe” at the Goethe Institut in Mumbai and Pune.
He pursued his training as a singer mostly teaching himself via the internet. The young baritone has performed in private concerts in Mumbai, New York, London, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Chennai and Banglore. He has received scholarships for participating in international music festivals such as the Alpenkammermuskfestival in Austria 2015 and The Art Song Preservation Society in New York 2017. In 2016, he participated in a masterclass with Benjamin Appl in Mumbai and in master classes with Randall Scarlatta, Giuseppe Filianotti, Thomas Grubb, Frank Daykin in the USA in 2017 and 2018 at the Liedakademie in Trossingen with Anne Le Bozec, Axel Bauni and Burkhard Kehring.
Since October 2017 he is studying Bachelor Voice at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart with Prof. Ulrike Sonntag. In the academic year 2017/2018 he was supported by the Media house Holtzbrinck Group. He has performed numerous recital concerts and solo performances. He is a participant and prize winner of the Fritz-Wunderlich-Society in Kusel and is a scholarship holder of the Christel Guthörle Foundation Reutlingen and the Yehudi-Menuhin-Scholarship "Live Music Now". In August 2018 he won the second prize and the Audience Award of the first Indian Singing Competition "Voices of India". In May, he was selected to debut with the Baden Baden Philharmonie and July he was the Baritone Soloist in the Vaughan Williams Song cycle The Songs of Travel for Baritone and Orchestra in the Stadthalle in Reutlingen. He has currently won the DAAD 2019 award for International Student who has done outstanding Social work in Germany and abroad
