Franz Klainsek (born 1978) is an American contemporary artist. Franz Klainsek creates work on copper with an axe, work on canvas, and large scale installations. His work is often accompanied by performance art, especially endurance art. Klainsek's work is based on conceptual art and shows some attributes of abstract expressionism, surrealism, and is infused with autobiographical, psychological, and societal content. His large scale installations have been presented by international art fairs and galleries, with exhibitions in New York, Miami and Tbilisi, Georgia. A reoccurring object in Klainsek's work are gold nails, which can be found within his canvas and installation work. Influences The work on canvas often resembles aboriginal motifs seen throughout the indigenous culture, more specifically- the Shipibo Indian and Quechua cultures. Philosophy Klainsek’s theories present the conflict between modern society and man, with references to one's relationship with mind, especially the state of being present to the moment.
