Frank Kortan

Frank Kortan (born April 22, 1964 in Prague, Czech Republic) is a German painter, who works in style of surrealism, fantastical realism and trompe-l'oeil, he is a winner of World Prize of Salvador Dalí for fine arts. He lives and works in Egloffstein Bavaria (Germany).
Life and work
He started his professional artistic career as a musician, in 1984 he emigrated to Tessino (Switzerland), after one year he moved to Germany. In the early nineties he met the German artistic scene, which worked in the style of "Trompe-l'oeil" (optical illusion) which is an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects exist in three dimensions. This fine technique, which was already used by the old masters fascinated him. He begins to study this technique intensively so that he can implement his ideas and themes without any technical limitation. But only the "trompe l'oeil" style, which mainly represents a classical still life, is not enough for him, he combines it with Fantastic Realism and Surrealism in order to transform his thoughts into surreal and magical compositions. In his works he implements historical themes that are composed of reality, imagination and hiding humor. Not only historical personalities such as Wolfgang Amadeus, Mozart, Johann Sebastian Bach, or Franz Kafka are portrayed in his unique style, but also contemporary personalities, such as the writer Ephraim Kishon or the singer Karel Gott are portrayed by him.
Since 2003 he is a Knight of the Order Ordo Sancti Constantini Magni.
His paintings were seen in numerous solo and group exhibitions and his works are in private as well as in public collections.
