Fender Reggie Hamilton Standard Jazz Bass
|
Overview The Fender Reggie Hamilton Standard Jazz Bass is an electric bass guitar made by the Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC) for session bassist Reggie Hamilton. It is available only in a 4-string version featuring a Jazz Bass body and neck, an American Series Precision Bass split-coil pickup in the neck position and a Dual-Coil Ceramic Noiseless Jazz Bass pickup with nickel-plated polepieces in the bridge paired with an active 3-band EQ powered by an 18V power supply and an active/passive toggle switch. Other features include an alder body and a 20-fret maple neck with rosewood fingerboard and 70's stamped open-gear tuning machines with a Hipshot Bass Extender Drop D tuning key on the E string. Features The main differences between the Reggie Hamilton Standard and other Jazz basses are the pickup configuration, the active EQ (with 18-volt headroom), and the factory-installed Fender-Hipshot Bass Extender, which allows the fourth string to be tuned down to a C or D and then back again with the flip of a lever. The input jack has been moved from the front control plate to the bottom edge and a fourth knob has been added where the input jack usually is. In Passive mode the only controls are Master Volume and Pan Pot, but in Active mode both of those knobs work, plus Bass, Mid and Treble tone controls which can add or cut up to 12dB each. As of 2010, only two color options are available, Black with a 3-ply black pickguard and 3-Colour Sunburst with a 4-ply brown tortoise shell pickguard. Custom Shop Model The Custom Artist Reggie Hamilton Signature Jazz Bass is similar in terms of features to the Made in Mexico Standard model, except for the addition of a modified select alder Jazz Bass body, quartersawn maple neck with five-bolt neck plate, sculpted heel and Schaller locking strap buttons. Available (with four or five strings) in Black, 3-Colour Sunburst (RW), Candy Cola and Olympic White (MN). Other refinements include a 4-ply white shell pickguard, a Fender Deluxe strings-through-body/top-load bridge with nickel-plated brass saddles and a 21-fret unbound rosewood or maple fingerboard with white pearloid block position markers.
