Female librarians in Ghana

There are several renowned Female Librarians in Ghana. Although the Department of Information of Studies at the University of Ghana trains both male and female, most of the male colleagues divert to other areas at the masters level or continue to become lecturers without practicing librarianship. It is one of the professions perceived to be dominated by female, regardless of the technical nature of the training. This article presents notable female librarians who have made significant contributions in the Information Science and Librarianship profession The female librarians have worked in various capacities in higher institutions in Ghana and have contributed tremendously to the growth of the library profession in Ghana. A few of them have retired from regular official duties, but are working to support of the librarianship profession in various capacities Female librarian working to support the development of upcoming librarians and to attach prestige to the library profession has increased within the African region of which the leadership of AfLIA who are mostly females contributing to connect Africa's libraries and the information profession to the World. These are mostly done through professional development activities.Female librarians in Ghana are very necessary and important because it motivates other female to venture into the profession.
Dr.Helena Asamoah-Hassan
Dr. Helena Asamoah-Hassan is currently the Executive Director of AfLIA and one of the founding members of African Library and Information Associations and Institutions - AfLIA. Currently, She is the Board Chairperson of the Ghana Library Authority, INASP Associate and Open Access advocate.
