Fay B. Begor

Fay Broughton Begor (15 October 1916 - 9 September 1943) was an officer in the United States Navy during World War II.
Biography
Begor was born in Moriah, New York, on 15 October 1916, and received his M.D. from McGill University. Appointed a Lieutenant (junior grade), USNR, in 1942, Dr. Begor was killed in action during landings of the 9th Australian Division on the Huon Peninsula 4 September 1943. The infantry landing craft LCI(L)-339 was strafed on the way to the beach and then hit by bombers as Begor was treating wounded troops. Severely wounded, Begor was treated at the U.S. Army 87th Station Hospital at Buna, Papua New Guinea and evacuated to that had been converted to a hospital ship on 7 September and died aboard on 9 September 1943. He was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross.
Namesake
In 1944, (APD-127) was named in his honor.
