Family Literacy Fair

The Family Literacy Fair is an upcoming celebration of International Literacy Day hosted by the Miami-Dade Public Library System's Project LEAD. The Fair offers participants the chance to learn about the many ways the Miami-Dade Public Library System connects them with the resources to meet their recreational, educational, and informational needs.



Time and Location

The fair will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 7PM at the Main Library Auditorium, 101 W Flagler Street from 1-4 PM.

Literacy Fair Events

A "Literacy Challenge" will help participants gain awareness of library's many programs, services and databases. The "Literacy Challenge" will also include computer demonstrations. Those completing the challenge will receive a prize. The fair will also include displays concerning the Library's free literacy programs for all ages. These programs include the provision of educational kits for preschoolers and borrow by mail services for the homebound.

The Fair will also include a continuous Read-A-Thon by Rotary Club members from across Miami-Dade County

"Son de Ahora" a Latin ensemble will provide entertainment.

Project LEAD

The Family Literacy Fair is designed to encourage community participation in Project LEAD as literacy volunteers. Project LEAD offers individual tutoring for adults seeking to improve their reading and writing skills. The program pairs volunteer tutors with adult learners.
