The FairShares Association is a voluntary association hosted by Social Enterprise Europe of co-operative and social enterprise professionals and academics who support a multi-stakeholder approach to the design and development of co-operatives and social enterprises. It published the FairShares Model in multiple formats to support new approaches to the integration of founders, producers, employees, customers, service users and investors into the ownership, governance and management systems of an enterprise. The FairShares Association was an impact of a research programme by Rory Ridley-Duff and Tracey Coule on 'Democratising Charities, Co-operatives and Social Enterprises' that involved academics and partner organisations at Sheffield Hallam University and Manchester Metropolitan University.. The association is committed to developing the FairShares Model approach to social enterprise development which reforms the process of capital allocation and introduces value-added sharing (in addition to profit sharing) to give each stakeholder a fairer share of the wealth their interactions create..
