Fairly OddPet is an animated television special based on the popular Nickelodeon series Fairly OddParents created by Butch Hartman. It debuted in 2013 and centered around Timmy Turner's adoption of an enchanted but dimwitted and uncontrollable talking dog named Sparky, to catastrophic results. Plot Dismayed at the idea of being the sole child in Dimmsdale without a pet, Timmy Turner yearns to adopt an animal of his own despite his past incompetence and disasters with pets. After his parents refuse to buy a pet dog for him, Timmy is inspired to visit a magical pet shop in Fairy World accompanied by Cosmo and Wanda, his fairy godparents. There, Timmy encounters Sparky, a well-meaning, earnest, but accident-prone and dimwitted magical dog infamous for his complicated, poor history with past owners, none of whom could handle his destructive or moronic antics. Unshaken, Timmy adopts the dog anyway and enjoys his unlimited magical capabilities; however, Sparky quickly proves to be a greater responsibility than he originally had expected (i.e. his contraction of magical fleas capable of transforming victims into humanoid, ferocious bipedal dogs with a single bite, his vandalism of the Turner household, etc.). Timmy begins to question whether or not he should return Sparky to the pet store, to the dog's dismay. After Sparky unexpectedly vanishes, Timmy stumbles upon an apologetic video tape filmed by his pet out of remorse for his actions, containing a compilation of footage of the memories that they had shared in the brief amount of time that they had spent together. As Timmy regretfully laments Sparky's departure, he is shocked by a newscast announcing the obliteration of the Dimmsdale Dam (inconveniently located behind Timmy's house) and the oncoming flood about to hit the community, and Sparky is soon upswept in the waves following the dam's combustion. Timmy remorsefully mourns the possible demise of his new pet; however, the dog quickly proves to be fine, assuring Timmy of his immortality as a magic animal. Learning of the true requirements of a responsible, competent pet owner, Timmy welcomes Sparky back into his home, now further understanding his duties.
