Extremus Versicherungs-AG is a German terrorism insurance company, organized as an Aktiengesellschaft. It was founded in 2002, in the wake of the 9/11 attacks in the United States, as insurers judged that terrorism risks could bankrupt existing insurance and reinsurance companies. The company insures risks in Germany and operates under a government guarantee. While the company covers the first 2.52 billion € of damages, the German federal government will guarantee the payout of further damages, with an overall limit of 9 billion €. The minimum insurable risk is 25 million €, and the maximum per-customer risk is 2.5 billion €. As of 2021, the insurance had 1496 contracts insuring 13'570 objects, which have a value of 763 billion €.
