European Parliament resolution on the importance of European remembrance for the future of Europe

European Parliament resolution on the importance of European remembrance for the future of Europe (2019/2819(RSP)) is a resolution that the the European Parliament adopted entitled "The Importance of European Remembrance for the Future of Europe [2019/2819 (RSP)]", condemning Nazi and Communist crimes, as well as the crimes of all other totalitarian regimes. It recalls, among other things, how "Nazi and Communist regimes carried out massacres, genocide, deportations and led to the unprecedented loss of life and freedom in the 20th century at an unprecedented scale in human history."
The same document also calls on all EU Member States to clearly and principally re-examine the crimes and acts of aggression committed by totalitarian communist regimes and the Nazi regime.
This resolution is just another document in a row that relies on Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly resolutions no. 1096 and No. 1481 on the unquestionable need to condemn the communist regime and communist crimes, as well as the condemnation of all totalitarian regimes in history.

Declaratory convictions, regardless of the goodwill shown, generally have no effect unless the declarations and resolutions are followed by by-laws and regulations that would effectively and efficiently regulate these issues in the only possible legal way.
In particular, the EU Parliament expresses concern that "there are still monuments in the public spaces of some Member States (in parks, squares, streets, etc.) extolling totalitarian regimes." At the same time, several EU countries have banned the use of Nazi and Communist symbols and manifestations that would resemble them.
