Enrique Romero-Nieves

Enrique Romero-Nieves born in Culebra, Puerto Rico was a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corps with the 1st Battalion 7th Marines in the Korean War. PFC Romero Nieves died on October 26, 1952 and was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for heroism in battle.
Early years
Enrique Romero Nieves born in Culebra, PR lived with he's parents in Frederiksted, United States Virgin Islands were he attended schools in Frederiksted until he joined the U.S. Marines on November 8, 1951, and sent for boot camp to Parris Island, South Carolina where he was assigned to Company A 1st Battalion.

The names of the Navy Cross recipients who perished in combat are inscribed in Puerto Rico's "El Monumento de la Recordacion" (Monument of Remembrance). The monument is dedicated to the Puerto Ricans (both those who were born in the island and/or those who were born elsewhere, but are of Puerto Rican descent) who have fallen in combat as members of the Armed Forces of the United States. The monument is located in front on the south side of the Capitol Building of Puerto Rico in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Legacy
The American Legion Post 102 in Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands was named in honor of PFC Enrique Romero Nieves.
