The Energy Institute is a research center at University of Texas at Austin. The institute conducts research on energy production, energy demand and use, energy systems and transactions, both domestically and internationally. The institute seeks to foster innovation, educate students and inform policy by promoting energy research and expertise from all departments and across all energy-related fields and topics at UT Austin. History The Energy Institute was founded in 2009, and led by Raymond L. Orbach, former Under Secretary for Science in the United States Department of Energy. In 2018, the University of Texas appointed as Director Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs Associate Professor Varun Rai, following the tenures of Thomas F. Edgar, who secured a $15 million grant from ExxonMobil, and Michael Webber.
