End of the Night is a 1967 song by The Doors, written by Jim Morrison, appearing on the self-titled debut album of the band. This album was released in the same year.
The meaning of this song is reported to be written about Jim Morrison's own goal in life. Jim Morrison's highly frequent consumption of psychedelic drugs was reputed to have been motivated by his desire to experience death in life, hence "End of the Night".
The lyrics are also clearly inspired by the French novel, ""Journey To the End of the Night"". As well as this, the line "Realms of bliss, realms of light, some are born to sweet delight, some are born to sweet delight, some are born to the endless night" is taken almost verbatim from a poem by William Blake, "Auguries of Innocence". Blake was a favorite author of Morrison.
