Emmanuel John Winner

Emmanuel John Winner is a writer, poet, philosopher, musician who lives in Western New York. He was highly active in both the Poetry Central and the Writers and Books communities in Rochester in the 1970s and 1980s. He was also active in the early 'punk' scene of New York City during the mid-1970s, and the 'new wave' music scene of upstate New York during the 1980s and 1990s. He gained some notoriety for adding 'performance art' elements to both his poetry recitals and music performances. He earned a Doctorate in English (Rhetoric) from SUNY Albany in 1990. He has taught writing and literature at the State University of New York at Brockport. He has also taught at Monroe Community College, and other colleges in the Western New York area.
