Emma Elizabeth Tillman (née Garr) , is an American writer, director, and photographer. She is mostly known for being Father John Misty's muse and has appeared in a number of his music videos. Early life Tillman was born in Santa Barbara, California. Her father is a sailmaker and her mother was the director of an organization that gave education to women about childbirth while Tillman was growing up. At 12, she took a photography class and learned how to use the dark room. She lived in Copenhagen for a year alone. She also lived in Western France on the beach where she took interest in photography once again after leaving it for a while. . She graduated with an MFA in film directing from UCLA in 2014. Career Her photographs have appeared in a number of magazines such as So it Goes Magazine, Violet Book Magazine, Man of the World, and Paste Magazine with her husband (then boyfriend) Josh Tillman. In 2013, Tillman directorial debut with the short film The History of Caves, and asked her husband to write the music for the film. Tillman is also working publishing a book of photographs, Born with a Disco Ball Soul, from when she was 18 to current events. It's due to be released in June 2017. In the summer of 2016, she shot her first feature length film that she wrote in New Orleans, starring model and actress Stella Schnabel. Personal life Tillman is married to musician Josh Tillman (also known as Father John Misty). They met in Los Angeles at the Laurel Canyon Country Store and were married in Big Sur. They had lived in New Orleans, Louisiana, but have returned to Los Angeles and now reside in Santa Barbara.
