Elsa Garcia-Vergara Deutsch (born in 1950 in Lima, Peru) is a jewelry designer who arrived in the USA in 1973 and became a naturalized American citizen in 1986. Early life Deutsch is the 10th of 12 siblings, born to a middle class family in Lima, Peru. Deutsch's father, Jose Garcia, owned an auto repair shop, and her mother Dora Vergara, was a seamstress. Elsa studied dance and in 1966 at the age of 16, landed positions in Peruvian television entertainment shows, Hoy Sabado and Ritmolandia. Career Upon her parents insistence that show business was not for proper young ladies, Deutsch reluctantly left television and went to work for the Peruvian telephone company. After studying English, in 1973 at the age of 23, Deutsch boarded a plane travelling to the United States. Carrying with her a couple of hundred dollars borrowed from her siblings. Deutsch became increasingly interested in having her own fashion or jewelry business and with her husband Stefan's help, she opened Elsa Jewelry on Long Island, New York. Deciding that dealing with brides and grooms was her passion, she would go on to create a company that would never have to say no to any bride or groom. Personal life She married Stefan Deutsch in 1979 and in 1981 gave birth to their daughter Carolena.
