Elimination Nation

Elimination Nation is a variation of the popular game Four Square. It is popular among school children as it is easy to set up and requires little equipment. Elimination Nation can include anywhere from two to ten people. It uses the same miniature tennis courts as four square but squares can be drawn on to the sides of the courts. It involves players representing many countries. Popular countries represented are: Australia, the United States of America, Germany, Sweden and England.

Equipment
Elimination Nation requires only a ball, often a tennis ball or a small rubber tennis ball sized ball. this is what makes the game so popular among school children as it is easy to set up.

Boundaries
The boundaries in Elimination Nation are the same as those in Four Square except that the inside lines are considered in. When extra lines are added on to the edges of courts or to join multiple courts together, a bounce close to the line is normally considered in.

Variations
There are many variations of Elimination Nation. These include:

Two Square

Four Square

Six Square

Eight Square

Ten Square

Nerd Ball

Wall Ball

Downball

Elimination Methods
There are four ways of getting out in Elimination Nation. However, a player must be in one of the bottom half squares to be Eliminated. If they are in a square in the top half, they will just move down to the bottom squares. The first way is by someone hitting the ball into their square and the ball then bouncing in a player's square and then out of the court. In this case, the receiver would be out unless they were in a top half square. the second way of going out is by a player hitting the ball into their square and the ball the bouncing out of the court. In this situation, the player who hit the ball would be out. Another method of being Eliminated is by doing what's called a "fool" (pronounced "full"). This is where a player hits the ball directly into another player's square. In this case , the person who hit the ball would again be out. The last way of being Eliminated in elimination Nation is by what's called a "death match'. This occurs when two or more people disagree on a decision. A death match consists of two people taking part in a single rally between themselves with the loser being either eliminated or simply moving down.

History
The game has a short history. It was started in 2007 by a group of years 8's at Koonung Secondary College in Melbourne, Australia. It quickly became popular at the public school and it still continues to be popular.

Special Moves
There are many special moves in Elimination Nation. These may or may not be included in the rules depending on the mood of the players and also the conditions. These two most common special moves in elimination Nation are the:

Skim: where a player hits the ball low and fast. This makes thew ball hard to return and rallies can often be made more exciting by multiple skims.

Sharkie or Shark: where a player hits the ball on the full into another player. If the ball bounces of the player into their square and then into another square, play continues but if it doesn't, the player who got hit is out. However, if the player being "sharked" catches the ball, the person to hit the ball to them is out. This rule is often not included in the rules as it can result in injury and often makes people very angry.
