Electric Drift Trike

An Electric Drift Trike is a Tricycle driven by a Brushless DC Hub Motor in the front wheel powered by a high voltage battery (usually 36V or 48V), Go-kart Wheels on the rear which have a layer of PVC or PE pipe which decreases the amount of Traction off the rear end to allow greater ability to Drift. They function using a throttle for acceleration, Hydraulic disk brake to stop and a remote low power ignition switch which are regularly found on all motorized tricycles and bikes.
Electric Drift Trikes were first brought into the spotlight by an Australian company Trike Drifters .. Electric Drift Trikes have been clocked at speeds over 50mph (80km/h) though the most common speed is only 20mph (32km/h).
Recreational
Electric Drift Trikes are designed to be used on Go-kart Tracks and Private Property to offer another layer of depth to the up-and-coming sport of drifting. The problem with any form of drift racing is majority of the population can’t afford a purposely designed drift vehicle to compete with friends around a track. This is where Electric Drift Trikes offer all the fun and adrenaline of drifting at a much cheaper cost, commonly even less expensive than a standard Go kart.
Electric Drift Trikes are low maintenance, requiring only a Lead acid battery which is plugged into an array of chargers after each run. Since they are pollution-free and emit no smoke, the racetracks can be indoors in controlled environments. Most fully charged electric drift trikes can run a maximum of 45 minutes before performance is affected.
Go Kart Tracks
Electric Drift Trikes offer similar advantages to Electric go-karts and are classified as motorcycles by Motorcycling N.S.W when raced on tracks. Thus co-inside and relate more with Mini Motor Racing than Go Karts.
Indoor Go Kart Tracks seem to have the main interest as they are more accessible and use slower and less powerful motors. 1Kw motors are the more common power level for indoor tracks as they offer plenty off power on there short straights and tight corners with a much lower risk. Commonly reaching speeds of 20mph(32km/h)

Outdoor Go Kart tracks commonly use a 3Kw+ Motor reaching speeds in excess of 50mph (80km/h) due to their long straights and wider corners.

Media
Electric Drift Trikes have been showcased in many Blogs, News Articles and recently in Audi's Q5 advertisement campaign.
Safety Measures
Electric Drift Trikes are not toys though often treated as such. Quality Trikes come with a Reinforced steel bar behind the riders seat, 50%,75% and 100% power control options, Hydraulic Disk Brakes, Steel or Alloy Frames, Motorcycle Front Tyre, Triple clamps and a LiFePO4 Battery with a dedicated low voltage Kill switch.
