Elaphone

The Elaphone is a woodwind instrument, similar to a flute or recorder, having a whistle style mouthpiece, and a tapered tonal shaft. The first Elaphone was created by Cory Little, of Elsie, Oregon U.S., in March 2012. It was made from a scrap piece from the top of an oak didgerydoo that had been hanging around the shop for years. In the following month of April, 2012, fifteen Elaphones were made from a mix of oak, and mahogany. The next month only two were made, but they were the first to be adapted, with the addition of a funnel shaped mouthpiece, to be played at the same time as whistling, or beat-boxing. Later models have smaller funnels. Most are tuned in a minor key, with the ability to play the relative major, and blues scales.
