El Vaquero is the student newspaper of Glendale Community College. Since 2008, the newspaper has also published the GCC Insider magazine. The newspaper is published eight times per semester. History The newspaper was founded as the Galleon in 1927. In 1936, it changed its name to El Vaquero, to reflect the school’s mascot, the vaquero. In 2008, the newspaper introduced the GCC Insider magazine. In 2018, the newspaper moved to the new Sierra Vista building on campus. Location The El Vaquero office and newsroom is located on the first floor of the Sierra Vista building. Awards El Vaquero won twenty Journalism Association of Community Colleges awards in 2005, setting a one-year record for itself.
