East Columbus United Methodist Church is a United Methodist church in Columbus, Indiana.
History East Columbus United Methodist Church was started in 1895 in an old brick school house in East Columbus where a group of Christians gathered together by the light of oil lamps. Reverend H. H. Sheldon preached his first sermon on Sunday night, October 6, 1895, to the twenty-one members of the church. This began a three week revival resulting in a number of conversions.
In 1950, ground was purchased at Indiana Avenue and Cleveland Street to build a new building that could house the church's increasing congregation. Later, the building was started with several church members assisting in the work. On September 6, 1959, formal dedication services of the $200,000.00 debt-free church were held. This was just five years from the date the first service was held in the sanctuary. Later an addition was added on to the church. This is used for office space, nursery and toddler rooms, and Sunday School Rooms, among other things. The church still uses this building today.
Current information The church has a video of the construction of the building which was transferred from the original film. Some of the members who assisted in building the church still attend.
The style of worship is blended and many types of music are sung there. There are various ministries available for all ages.
