East Coast Avengers is an American rap group formed in 2008, consisting of rappers Esoteric (of 7L & Esoteric) and trademarc, and producer DC the Midi Alien. Their forthcoming album, Prison Planet, is scheduled for an October 7th, 2008 street date , and is already garnering media attention for it's rumored politically abrasive content. Their lead single, "Kill Bill O'Reilly," served as the initial catalyst to their increasing buzz.
Kill Bill O'Reilly
In August of 2008, the East Coast Avengers' lead single, Kill Bill O'Reilly, was intentionally leaked on the internet, first appearing on www.wired.com, with an accompanying article. The song, which features group members Esoteric and trademarc lyrically condoning and urging the murder of right wing American television/radio host, Bill O'Reilly, was immediately met with a juxtaposition of intense scrutiny and contrasting support . DC the Midi Alien's orchestral production on Kill Bill O'Reilly serves as a backdrop for lines like:
"...infrared to Bill O'Reilly's head, that's a key spot... I'm not a violent man but actually your blasphemy is badgering me / to blast you with your factual inaccuracy / naturally, media matters to me / so we gotta shut Fox News down, that's the way it has to be."
AND
"I wanna hurt you, immerse you in torture / (expletive) make fun of you in punch lines, I'd rather kill your family in front of you by lunchtime" ... as well as ... "You want beef but you never send your song to war / that's my favorite reason but I got a hundred more."
The chorus of Kill Bill O'Reilly spells out the message of the song- "We gotta get him, get him... we gotta kill him, kill him."
Kill Bill O'Reilly, along with it's accompanying video, is scheduled to be officially released September 2nd, 2008 . The video is directed by Matt Workman, who has directed videos for Ludacris, KRS-One and Marley Marl, and Less Than Jake, among others .
Prison Planet
East Coast Avenger's debut album, Prison Planet, will be released October 7th, 2008, on the underground rap label Brick Records. It will feature guest appearances from Freddie Foxxx aka Bumpy Knuckles, Termanology, , Celph Titled, Statik Selektah, , and King Magnetic. The official press release for Prison Planet has been floating around online, and reads as follows...
"The children of Reaganomics are all grown up now. Having survived two violent Bush regimes, those raised in the 80's and molded in the 90's are now strong enough and wise enough to revolt against the wicked oppressors on this Prison Planet. These children, who grew up lower middle class on the teachings of Marvel Comics as opposed to the New York Post, who have more faith in George Lucas' Force than they do the Holy Bible, are poised to strike. What brought them to this point? Could it be the broken homes? Faulty clinical evaluations? Is it the prescription medications or the illegal drugs, which have become one in the same? Or maybe it's the influence of Public Enemy, Paris, and the Dead Kennedys? Most likely it's a combination of them all mixed with a splash of American counter-culture by way of the Black Panthers, David Icke, and Abbie Hoffman. Emerging from this equation are two unforgiving lyricists who paint storyboards so vivid that the imagery rivals scenes from a Francis Ford Coppola screenplay.
Stirring this pot is one producer with sonic landscapes plush enough to create the soundtrack to those images. Mix in current America, The Middle East, the war on terror, fear, paranoia, the war for oil, oppression, homelessness, depression, mind control, chemical warfare, sky rocketing taxes and global warming and what do you get? The Prison Planet that we are all serving life on. The prison planet where our only hope is The East Coast Avengers. Esoteric (of 7L & Esoteric, Army of the Pharaohs), trademarc, and DC the MIDI Alien combine as the East Coast Avengers, a trio of hip-hop rebels who have answered the call and take aim at Bill O'Reilly and the religious Right. Let no evildoing pundit, talk show host, or politician be safe in America any longer. ‘Prison Planet’ drops this fall on Brick Records."
