DVD Aficionado

DVD Aficionado is a social cataloging application for DVD media. The site primarily focuses on films and television series released on DVD, as well as DVD Audio, DualDisc, HD DVD, and Blu-Ray. Users are allowed to put their DVD collections online, as well as Wish Lists, DVDs they are selling, and DVDs bought on the Internet and through the mail.

Collection Management
DVD Aficionado allows users to sort their collections in a number of main folders, as well as any number of subfolders they wish to create. Users are also able to override the default alphabetical sorting for titles and display them in any order they wish. The current version of the site will only display 50 listings per page.

Title Submissions
All entries on the site are user-submitted and must be approved by a moderator before being entered into the database. In order for a user to submit a new title, they must have no fewer than 30 titles already in their collection.

In order to prevent duplicate listings, users are asked to provide as much information as possible on a new title including UPC, publisher, cover art and online store listing information, such as an ASIN for Amazon.com.

Listings for bootlegs, hardcore pornography and hate movies are not allowed.

Star Members
Star Members are users who have donated money, either the amount of $10USD or $20USD, to help maintain the site. Special privileges for Star Members include being able to view 500 titles per page, the ability to set their own genre classification for a film instead of the default, and, on the new version of the site, the ability to view larger coverart images.

DVD Aficionado 2.0
The new version of DVD Aficionado was released to the general public on June 17th 2007. New featured included an alternate style of navigation (featuring a moving sidebar) and one-pager mode, which allows users to view a more detailed page view for an individual DVD. However, the new design has been the source of critism among some online for being unwieldly and looking unfinished. The site has also fallen far behind the originally projected finish date, resulting in the database lacking numerous recent releases as well as large quantities of missing cover images.
