Dominico Venetucci

Dominico (Nick) T. Venetucci (July 23rd 1911 to September 7th 2004), often known as The Pumpkin Man, was rancher/farmer in Colorado Springs, CO who received national recognition for his achievements as he served 30,000 young people a year in the great pumpkin giveaway.
Born in Papetown, a northern Colorado Springs community, he worked for his family orchard and was a caddy at the Patty Jewett and Broadmoor golf courses.
At age 22 he began a baseball career in the New York Yankee organization. As a catcher he was moved from Class D to Class A in the minor leagues. It was then that the Venetucci family bought the ranch in Security, CO. He left baseball at this point to assist with the family farm.
Nick won many awards at the Colorado State Fair for his farm products. In 1950 he became known as "The Pumpkin Man" as he received national recognition for his achievements as he served 30,000 young people a year in the great pumpkin giveaway.
Notoriety of "The Pumpkin Man" has been given through the Readers Digest and Charles Kuralt's book and television series On The Road.
