Dogo Sardo

The Dogo Sardo is a breed of dog which is fairly common in Sardinia and is used as a livestock guardian dog. The phenotype of the dogs is somewhat variable as it never had a breed standard and is currently not recognized by ENCI, the Italian kennel club. It is known as Cani Pertiatzu in Sardinia and it is highly regarded as a guard dog. It has the characteristics of a very athletic molosser, endowed with agility, stamina, strength and disease resistance. It is a working dog with an intimidating appearance. The coat is short, smooth or rough, and usually reddish, black, gray, fawn, brown or brindle. Males stand 56 to 68 cm at the shoulder and can weigh up to 45 kg (100 lbs).
